Starting a blog can sound like a dream – something other qualified people do. It sounds too hard and complex for us to attempt. If that was your thinking, then don’t. Most of the top blogs you find are written by stay at home moms and average people.
Here at Create Sum Fun (CSF), we will show you how to create your own blog and look like a profesional in your chosen Niche. People will turn to you for advice and you will have the skills to give it. I’ve been working with computers for decades and online marketing since 2004. Through this time I have learned many of the secrets and tips needed to succeed.

In the Beginning…
I started as a computer helpdesk technician back in the 80’s. This eventually led me to dabbling in online marketing and blogging as a hobby. Now I run this blogging website teaching people like yourself how to Create Sum Fun while earning a living. And of course how to Start a Blog Website. I have a few other hobbies which I also blog about now, they are listed on my home page if you have an interest in that area also.
Initially I started a type of blog back in 2004, (it was not called “Blog” back then, but basically the same thing). It focused solely on making a living and getting rich. Without the knowledge or support it made a small profit, just not enough to live on. I was too focused on making money.
I found it was best to let the concept go for a while and focus on other projects and hobbies, besides working. Then I waited until the market, technology and timing was right. I have since learned that purely chasing money is a snare and only lead to failure for most of us.
I restarted blogging a few years ago. From there, I created a business plan that would set me up the right way this time. Focusing the blog on creative enjoyment and making enough to live on. I do still work part time in a manufacturing company, but that is purely to keep me active, healthy and occupied.
With this free course, I will show you exactly how to set up your blog technically. Also you will learn how to decide on a unique style, determine your niche and attract followers. Of course this will lead to the ultimate goal – learning how to earn your first income.
If you register for the email in the sidebar (or below), I will send you a reminder each day outlining the steps to help you start your blog successfully the first time. Thus avoiding the pitfalls I fell into back in my beginning.

Decide what to Start a Blog Website about
So, where do you go to start a Blog Website, what can you even blog about. It may seem impossible to come up with something that you are good at? But it is not! You know more about things than you think you know, so lets start looking at what those topics are.
Creating a blog around a topic that you know well and are passionate about is the best. Maybe you are an expert in that area, or you love everything about a topic, or something similar that you have a lot of knowledge about.
Occasionally I watch a show called ‘Hard Quiz’, each of the contestants have a topic that they consider themselves to be an expert in. The types of topics make you think, why would you study that; but the person loves their topic and they prove in the show they know it very well. For example, some topics are – Harley Davidson, Kiss (the Band), Cold Fusion, Faulty Towers, Daffodils, and more.
The idea here is that if you love a topic, then writing a blog about it becomes fun, rather than a chore. That is the whole point of my blogs and website – Create Sum Fun – If you do not enjoy your topic, it will become a chore and you will stop writing.
If you have several topics you find interesting, you can blog about them all or you can blog about just one specific thing such as Health. Some of the feedback I have received is from people considering a blog about some unusual topics. Such as Feet (as in a foot fetish), and that is great, it is a passion they have.
Your Blog can be about anything you like it just has to be about What YOU like. It is up to you. Once you start, you can make a living from any type of blog topic, why? Because there are people out there just like you, with the same passions as you. And there are many ways to monetize a blog which will be covered later. Some are even quite unique.
Topics:
Below is a list of some of the more common topics that may start those creative juices flowing. In the next Section I will show you how to make your choices standout. At this stage, be sure to pick a few topics and consider those ones. Even google them for more detail or similar ideas. The goal is to decide on what interests you the most.

There are many more topics and categories to choose from not listed here. You can write a blog about anything you want to talk about. Now you have some ideas to work with, it’s time to start planning how to actually create the blog using the tools best suited for the job.
Planning Your Blog using the Right Tools – You Need them
I can recommend getting the FREE Blog Planning Worksheet to help you start organising your blog the right way from the beginning. Or if you want to get all the tools at once, the Planning Worksheet is included in the CSF Blog Planner for just $11.95. Read more about the whole planner. The Planning Worksheet is a Brainstorming tool designed to help you narrow down the topic and category that best suits you when moving forward with the Blog.
Of course, you may have some questions about what topics and categories are. In the list above you will see that the topic Food for example, has subtopics of Produce, Diets, Recipes, National Cuisines, etc. There are also categories of The Lemon Detox Diet under Diets, or Italian under Cuisines, etc. Basically, it is a list of things you could write a blog about relating to your topic. They are formed into categories so there is some order or structure to your Blog.
The Planning Worksheet does make things easier to understand, and it is free. I seriously recommend you take a minute to download it right away!
Do You need to be an expert or have a degree in your chosen area?
A question I often receive is “Should I only write about things I am an “expert” in their or work to become an expert before I start a blog?” It certainly is something that needs to be considered at this time.
No, you do not need to be an expert or get a University Degree in “most” cases when it comes to blogging. Food for example comes down to taste, smell and appearance all of which are subjective to the end user. Some will think your opinion is spot on, others will think you are completely wrong. The majority though will see that your opinion is based on research and experimentation and is probably the best for them. Trust yourself!
Most readers just want to hear from you, they want to follow a real person’s journey and how they endured or solved a problem they had. They can relate to your story and it makes them feel good because it is personal. This is a great example of why experts are not always needed.
However, if you are wanting to give advice about financial, legal or tax matters where you could get someone in a lot of trouble if you tell them the wrong information, then, Yes, you should probably be an expert.
Today, we reviewed some of the ideas that you could blog about and brainstorm random ideas to help you decide. Next we will look at the term Niche and what defines you and your blog.
